Frequently Asked Questions

As I am getting my website up and running, I have been getting a lot of questions regarding my tanning procedures. Here is a helpful FAQ, which will also be posted on my website soon! Keep checking back for more details!
Questions Anyone?

How should I prep for my tan?

Prepping for your spray tan is easy! All you have to do before your appointment is shower, exfoliate & shave. Or to make it even easier, we can wax you before your tan. Just no moisturizers!

Will I look orange?

No! In the past, self-tanners did give many people an unnatural orange glow. Most of these undesirable results were caused by improper or ineffective application. Applying cremes and lotions by hand (with drugstore products) usually results in excessive amounts of tanner being absorbed into the skin. Unnatural dark spots may also appear in dry or thick skin areas such as elbows, knees, and knuckles because they have a tendency to absorb more of the creme or lotion. But this is not the case with a spray tan! You will get an even distribution of the solution, with no unnatural absorption. Your tan will come out even and natural everytime!

How long will the tan last?

Since everybody has different skin types, there is no set number of days for how long your spray tan can last. But most clients report their tan lasting about 7-10 days.

How long should  I wait to shower?

At least 4-6 hours, but you can wait as long as you would like!

What are the primary components in your spray tanning solution?

My spray tanning solution has three primary components: bronzer, DHA, and aloe vera. All of this combined with my experience in spray tanning gives you the most natural spray tan out there.

What is DHA?

The DHA (dihydroxyacetone) is the component that creates the longer-term tanning effect. DHA is a safe, simple molecule that has been used in food and cosmetics for years. When applied to the skin, DHA reacts with the proteins and amino acids in the skin's superficial layer to form a golden brown color. It will begin to darken 2 to 3 hours after application, but it reaches its peak color within 24 hours. The DHA color and intensity will be very close to that produced initially by the bronzer.

What should I wear while tanning?

Many people don't wear anything while being tanned. However, if you do wear a bathing suit, underwear, or anything else, please be aware that whatever you wear may become stained. The bronzer used for your initial color is water-soluble and should wash out of anything you wear, but the DHA contained in the solution may cause permanent stains on any clothing you wear.

Vacation Spot: Miami

In our new series Vacation Spot, we at Sunfree Beauty want to inspire you to get out there and enjoy life. What better way to do that then on vacation?

Whenever I go somewhere, I feel much more alive then I ever do at home. I dress better, add a little more makeup to my nightly routine (and subtract a lot during the day) and always get my spray tan on before I go.

Throughout this series, we will be looking at pictures of beautiful places and and the people who inhabit them. Hopefully we will inspire you to go somewhere (and help you pack!) So enjoy these pictures of our first Vacation Spot: Miami!

Our Top 5 Essential Winter Beauty Picks

No matter where you live, the season of cold weather and holiday parties can make you second guess every piece of makeup you have in your bag. To make your holiday routine a little easier, here are my top 5 beauty essentials for this winter:

This product is not for the faint of heart (or those of you who aren't a fan of instantly younger looking and softer lips!) This product amazed me the first time I used it. It is EXTREMELY gritty and really gets the job done. Did I mention this line was created by the doctors who created Proactiv? It works people! A bargain at twice the price! ($16)

I use this product in one shade or another every single day. "Tan", "Blue Brown" & "Melon" are a few of my favs that are great for an everyday all over base shade. The best thing about this product? I've NEVER had to replenish my supply as they seem to last forever!

With a name like Orgasm you better be able to walk the walk. This product is a combination blusher & bronzer and it literally looks great on all skin tones. It will give you that freshly bonzed look (in between airbrush tans, of course) and the blusher adds that romantic, fresh faced look we're all looking for. It's a bit pricey ($40), but it will last you a few seasons.

This is only the BEST mascara ever made! Why spend $15-30 dollars at the department store when you can get this product for $8 at target. I'm serious, this mascara is great for everyone. Use one coat for a natural day look, or apply 2-3 coats for your dramatic evening look. Go for Carbon Black to really make a statement!

The fact of the matter is, you can apply all the make up in the world but if you don't have good skin underneath it all, you won't get the results you're looking for. This easy to use, relatively inexpensive system works and is customizable to fit your skincare needs and concerns.  I set a good friend of mine up with her own system last week and the very next day she could already see and feel a difference. Invest the $50 dollars, it's worth it.

Celebs Who Spray Tan

As if you needed another excuse to get a spray tan,  we at SFBB have searched high and low for celebs who bronze their bods in the same way you do. On some people it is obvious that they are spray tanned, but for others it is more difficult to spot. Enjoy these bronzed beauties and book your appointment today!

In some instances I could even be wrong, especially with darker skin types. After all it could be a sun tan, bronzer, photoshop or even different lighting. But enjoy a few of your favorite celebrities looking just as pretty as you.

The Negatives of Tanning Booths

I know I may be a bit biased, but it is a known fact that tanning booths are bad for you. Sure the sun feels great, but those high powered bulbs cause some serious damage your skin.

Overexposure to any UV rays can cause premature aging and loss of skin elasticity. But premature aging and cancer are harmful effects of tanning booths that do not show up for many years, after damage to the skin is already irreversible.
There is no completely safe UV ray exposure. It is true that exposure to some sunlight is healthy, because it prompts the body to produce vitamin D, but the amount of sunlight needed for this health benefit is MINIMAL. UV rays are radiation, and over-exposure always causes damage of some kind. Both types of UV rays have been linked to immune system damage.

See what I mean? Take a second to think about what you are doing before hoping into that warm lighted booth. The safe alternative, no matter what time of year, is spray tanning. Why not get your bronze on with Sunfree Beauty Bar?!

Spaceship? No.... these bulbs are frying your skin.
